With the rising popularity of online shopping, there is a growing pressure on retailers to create an ‘experience’ for their clientele. Martin Patrick 3, the celebrated men’s lifestyle store in the North Loop, the hip warehouse district of downtown Minneapolis, attracts men and women from all across the country by providing exactly that – an experience. In this case, of sophistication, style and aesthetic. What began as an interior design firm, Martin Patrick 3 has grown its space to include a beautifully curated selection of furniture, apparel, apothecary and design as well as an in-house barber shop and bar.
While the products are sourced from all across the globe, there is an inherent harmony to the stores’ collection. Both the essentials and the bespoke are distinguished by a timeless quality be fitting of the Midwestern man and his active lifestyle.
It was this search for integrity that first attracted Erick Deleon, Martin Patrick 3’s store manager and buyer to Rodd & Gunn.
When it comes to buying for the store, what is your guiding philosophy?
"Honestly, we try to have something for everyone, from casual to tailored and everything in between. We like to be versatile and stand by the brands we carry."
What qualities attracted you to Rodd & Gunn that you thought would appeal to the Midwestern man?
"Martin Patrick 3 prides itself on not forgetting its roots, which is an ethos I think we share with Rodd & Gunn. Being active is a core element of the lifestyle here (Minneapolis is the fittest state in America!) and so the quality and versatility of Rodd & Gunn are especially appealing."
What are you most excited about in the Rodd & Gunn range this season?
"Outerwear is always a hit with R&G and this season looks to be the strongest yet. I am particularly excited about the new blazer - a great looking outerwear piece adds so much to an outfit, plus with it not breaking the bank, it’s a huge plus!"
Martin Patrick 3 is spoken about as being an innovator of ‘experiential retail’. What is currently happening in store?
"From service to selection along with our events - we just love being hosts. It’s important to us that our customers love coming to the store. We want them to feel welcome and never be pressured to buy anything."
Is there room for some New Zealand flavor on your cocktail list this winter? What about offering one of The Lodge Bar’s signature cocktails?!
"Ummm that would be amazing!"
