A brief is a classic cut with a higher leg opening and a snug, minimal profile. It offers a closer fit through the thigh with no excess fabric.

The waistband should sit at the natural waist without digging or rolling. There should be enough room through the back to move freely without the fabric pulling, but not so much that it bunches or shifts during the day. In a trunk, the leg hem should lie flat against the thigh without riding up. In a brief, the leg opening should sit cleanly at the top of the thigh without cutting in. If the waistband leaves a mark after a full day of wear, the size is too small. If the back sags or the leg hem rolls, size down.
