FIVE LESSONS IN SUMMER STYLING
6th December 2022With warmer months among us and festivities around every corner, it’s time to rediscover once again the magic of a summer wardrobe.
Opportunities to employ the most versatile pieces for casualwear, formal events, for travelling, working and everything in between, use Rodd & Gunn’s five lessons in summer styling as a guide for sartorial dressing this season and nail every dress code with confidence.

UTILISE CLASSIC SHAPES
Nothing beats versatility when it comes to your wardrobe. Ever heard the word ‘capsule’ thrown around in the world of men’s fashion? Classic shapes and investment pieces lay solid foundations in a great capsule wardrobe, and ones you should be utilising every day. Items you can mix, match, dress up and dress down. Those you can leave as they are or carefully accessorise with to add depth and personality for any event.
Pay homage to simplistic ways of living this summer and express it through your wardrobe. Items like our men’s Oxford shirt, the Gunn t-shirt and the Peaks Custom Shorts are versatile examples of classic shapes and those you can repurpose all season long.

PLAY WITH COLOUR
Colour can either be your best friend or your worst nightmare. During the last century, monochromatic style and lack of vibrancy in corporate culture was the norm. This summer we’re encouraging you to breathe life into your wardrobe with a few highlight pieces. We’re not going to delve into the colour wheel when we’re only pairing two or three items together – instead the combination of colour with a neutral base is a savvy solution to maintain sophisticated, effortless style.
Ignore trends. Focus on colours you feel comfortable in, and mix and match tones. Don’t throw out your clothes every time the seasons change, but choose which colours you feel comfortable in so you can keep them in rotation all year round.

KEEP IT COMFORTABLE
No matter the occasion, dressing for comfort should lay the foundations for every outfit. During the warmer months, stay effortlessly cool by choosing lightweight, breathable items. Choose looser fitting shirts, simple t-shirts and footwear to match the season such as boat shoes or simple loafers. For denim, choose straight fit jeans and wear them in until they are yours.
For nights out, consider lightweight knitwear and utilise linen and cotton blend shirts. For relaxed days, resort pieces will carry you from morning to night in style whilst never letting up on comfort.

CONSIDER YOUR SOCIAL SCHEDULE
Summer social schedules seem to fill up in a matter of weeks so when the time arises, you need to play it cool between bach to beach, from desk to dinner. The ever-questionable smart casual dress code can easily be swayed with a few simple alterations. Within your capsule wardrobe of classic silhouettes, a few staple colours, and comfort-first pieces, think about the stylistic nature of your day’s plans. This is where dressing up and dressing down your transitional pieces comes into play.
For relaxed events, utilise staples like a pair of Sussex Street Sneakers with Slim Fit stretch-enriched chinos, a polo or a linen shirt and accessorise with a simple signature cap. For more formal layering, bring an unstructured jacket or blazer, a change of footwear to Chelsea Boots and accessorise with a leather belt.

KEEP IT SIMPLE AND BE COMFORTABLE.
