Extremely Disappointed with Quality of Cambridge Messenger Satchel
I purchased the Cambridge Messenger Satchel in December 2024 as a Christmas gift for my husband. The bag looked fantastic and came with a high price tag, which I took as a sign of quality and durability. I made the purchase with the belief that I was investing in a premium product.
However, it is now only May 2025; just five months later and the bottom of the bag is already showing a lesion in the leather. This is incredibly disappointing, especially as the bag was marketed as a laptop bag. It was bought specifically for that purpose, and it has only been used for standard business items, including a laptop.
Despite treating the bag with great care, your team has responded to my concerns by stating that the damage is due to “wear and tear.” I find this response unacceptable. If a leather bag sold specifically as a laptop bag cannot withstand five months of normal business use, then it is simply not fit for purpose.
If these bags are intended for display only, that should be clearly stated on the label for example: “Do not use for carrying items, for show only.” Otherwise, customers are misled into purchasing something that cannot perform the basic function it is sold for.
This experience has left me deeply disappointed. I had high expectations from Rodd and Gunn, but this situation has seriously affected my confidence in the brand. I will not hesitate to share my experience with others to highlight the poor quality of this product and question the durability of the broader Rodd and Gunn range.
There is so much potential in this product, but it has resulted in a great disappointment.

Great messenger bag for everyday carry.
Great messenger bag. Leather is really nice, soft and supple. Interior textile is also really soft and luxurious. It is barely large enough to fit a 16in MacBook Pro, but it does fit it comfortably. The strap is also really nice - wide and comfortable. Definitely a great casual messenger bag for everyday carry.

Gorgeous Bag
Amazing bag. The leather is crazy awesome. So soft! The strap is nice and extremely comfortable. The inside provides a great amount of space and has just the right amount of dividers. It's my favorite color for a bag and I know if you get one you won't be disappointed! Plus, the price is really fair for the product you get.
