Rodd & Gunn works with a selection of genuine hides chosen for their quality, handle, and how they wear over time. Current styles include sheep suede, ultra-supple goatskin suede with a soft, lightweight feel, and 100% grained natural cow leather: a robust full-grain hide that develops character with wear.

Unlike synthetic materials that degrade over time, genuine leather softens and moulds to the wearer with every use. Suede in particular develops a natural patina. The surface relaxes, becomes more supple, and the jacket gradually takes on a character that reflects how and where it's been worn. Rodd & Gunn specifies premium hardware throughout the range. Select styles feature zippers by YKK, a Japanese manufacturer widely regarded as the benchmark for zip quality, while others use nut-derived corozo buttons: a natural alternative to plastic with a refined, tactile finish. Both are chosen for longevity as much as aesthetics.

The construction across the range reflects the same attention to detail as the materials. Key features can include articulated two-piece sleeves engineered for freedom of movement, heavy-duty topstitching for structural strength, and concealed snap closures at the cuff for a clean finish.
