Rodd & Gunn Marks 80 Years of the Iconic Pointer Logo

Last Friday evening in Auckland, Rodd & Gunn marked the beginning of a significant milestone: 80 years of the Gunner English Pointer Dog emblem, a symbol that has come to define the values Rodd & Gunn is synonymous with today.

The Gunner Dog was first registered in New Zealand in 1946 and naturally became an anchor for the brand - one rooted in patience, craftsmanship, loyalty, and time-honoured sporting traditions.

“The Pointer represents everything Rodd & Gunn stands for, honesty, pride, loyalty and playfulness. Celebrating its 80-year history is a way to honour the values that continue to guide the brand today, across every market we operate in, and experience we offer our customer” says Rodd & Gunn CEO, Mike Beagley.

The anniversary celebrations began fittingly in New Zealand, with Rodd & Gunn wine at The Lodge Bar Commercial Bay, welcoming press, friends of the brand, and VIPs in Auckland for the SailGP weekend. The evening culminated in the unveiling of the Pointer logo brought to life in motion - illuminated and running across Auckland’s landmark Sky Tower - a subtle celebration designed to spark pride among fans of the brand.

The Gunner Dog’s 80-year history allows Rodd & Gunn to celebrate legacy bridging the brand’s origins with its modern global presence.

Over the coming year, the 80th celebrations will unfold across New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the US, and Canada, with a series of market-specific moments that reflect Rodd & Gunn’s evolution from a New Zealand brand into an international one, while remaining grounded in the values the Pointer has symbolised since 1946.

This anniversary is not about looking back - it’s about acknowledging the enduring strength of an emblem that continues to move the brand forward.
